
Counter Sales
At Tekmetric, many shops sell parts to customers over the counter that are not installed at the shop. Recording these sales requires creating an entire repair order, which requires a customer and vehicle and is a lot more clicks than necessary for selling a set of wiper blades. We’d like to make it dramatically easier to create counter sales in Tekmetric. This is one of the most-requested features.

Goals
The metrics we aimed to move were the following:
Improve NPS by resolving Canny votes
Reduce the # of clicks in the RO creation flow by creating a smoother workflow for what is currently a “type” of RO.
Creating a counter sale
A counter sale is a new type of invoice that consists only of parts lines and pulls parts from inventory. It does not have a vehicle associated, but a customer can optionally be added to a counter sale. Counter sales have no relationship to an RO so it was important to create a brand new UX flow.
As part of a counter sale, the shop should be able to take an integrated payment.
Counter sale refunds
A counter sale return can be initiated by looking up a past counter sale. The two are linked after being created, similar to the link between a refund invoice and an RO. In some cases, the shop may want to return the part to inventory, so we will provide a checkbox for the user to begin the return workflow.
OUTCOMES
Shop adoption of about 3,500 shops as of Feb 15, 2024
90% = ~3,000 shops use the counter sale feature
500 shops created at least one counter sale within 30 days of release.
Reporting
Tracking all counter sales are important for shops to track profit and inventory. We identified key areas in the app to showcase a log of sales as well as implement sales into existing reports.
